Daniel Kweku Botwe, a Ghanaian ICT specialist and politician from the New Patriotic Party, serves as a Member of Parliament for the Okere constituency in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
Dan Kwaku Botwe was born in the Eastern Region of Ghana.He hails from Abiriw Akuapem.He was enrolled at the Presbyterian Primary and Middle Schools at Mabang in the Ahafo-Ano District of the Ashanti Region for his primary education. He obtained his GCE Ordinary Level certificate at Kumasi Academy and his GCE Advanced Level certificate in 1977 from Achimota School. He gained admission into the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science.
He was chosen to serve as the National Union of Ghana Students' (NUGS) national secretary from 1982 to 1983 while he was a student at KNUST. His election took place just as the Provisional National Defense Council's military regime came into effect. He became a target because of his activity and criticism of the powerful elite. Along with other Ghanaians, he received a sentence of exile to the Ivory Coast. He eventually went back to Ghana, where he worked from 1985 to 1993 as a computer analyst for the Ghana Cocoa Board before starting a private firm.
Botwe worked as a computer analyst for the Ghana Cocobod in 1985. He continued to work there until he started his own firm in 1993. He was made a director of Danmaud Limited, a local business.
Botwe ran for flag bearer in the 2007 New Patriotic Party primaries. The purpose of the primaries was to elect a successor to John Agyekum Kufour, the party's nominee and president of Ghana, who had completed his entire term. Botwe competed against 16 other hopefuls in the competition. On December 22, 2007, Accra held the elections.Botwe had argued that the role of flag carrier required a young individual and shouldn't be viewed as a "retirement package" for the elderly.In the end, Nana Akufo-Addo won the election.
Following Brandford Kwame Daniel Adu's decision to resign as the representative for the constituency, Dan Botwe ran in the 2008 parliamentary election in Okere. Botwe won the election to the House of Representatives with 11,974 votes, or 60.8%, of the total 19,684 votes cast. He subsequently won the 2012, 2016, and 2020 parliamentary elections in a row.
Botwe was appointed minister of the newly established Ministry of Regional Reorganization and Development by President Akufo-Addo in January 2017. In order to carry out one of his campaign pledges, Akufo-Addo established the ministry to manage the division of the nation's many regions. The Western region will be redrew to form the Western-north region, and the Volta region will be redrew to form the Oti region.
