Political Career

In March 2016, Gifty Twum Ampofo ventured into the world of politics by participating in the NPP parliamentary primaries for the Abuakwa North Constituency, Eastern Region of Ghana. This opportunity arose following the passing of Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu. Her entrance into the political arena was marked by her victory in the subsequent Abuakwa North Constituency by-elections. Ampofo secured 10,033 votes, representing a staggering 89.60% of the total votes cast. Her rivals, Samuel Frimpong of the Ghana Freedom Party and Isaac Kwarteng of the United People's Party garnered 263 votes (2.35%) and 901 votes (8.05%), respectively.

Ampofo's popularity and success extended into the 2020 general election, where she once again secured victory in the Abuakwa North Constituency parliamentary seat. She received 17,653 votes, accounting for 53.2% of the total votes cast, while Charles Yeboah Darko, the NDC parliamentary candidate, earned 15,551 votes, representing 46.8% of the total votes cast.
