BepiColombo, a joint mission between ESA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), was launched on October 19, 2018, to study Mercury. On November 12, 2014, ESA's Philae lander made history by becoming the first spacecraft to land on a comet. The first successful launch of the Ariane 1 rocket took place on December 24, 1979.
