Dr. Michael Kpessa Whyte is a senior lecturer at the University of Ghana and a National Democratic Congress member
In 2009, earned a PhD in Political Science with a focus on Comparative Public Policy from McMaster University in Canada. In 2005, completed a Master of Arts in Political Science, specializing in International Relations, at Brock University. In 2001, obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Ghana, Legon.
In 2011, he moved from the University of Saskatchewan's Jonson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, where he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), to IAS.
He was named "The Most Promising Young Researcher" in 2012 by the University of Ghana, Legon's Faculty (now School) of Social Sciences.
He served as the former Executive Director of the National Service Program and a member of former President John Mahama's staff.
He had a dual position as the Executive Director of the Ghana National Service Scheme and Policy Advisor in the Office of the President of the Republic of Ghana between 2013 and early 2017.
During the 2020 General Elections, he served as one of the petitioner's representatives in the Electoral Commission's (EC) strongroom.
He is a Research Fellow with the Institute of African Studies (IAS), University of Ghana, Legon, and a political scientist trained in the School of Comparative Public Policy and Political Institutions.
