D-Black first went to Ridge Church School and later attended Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary. After that, he pursued a B.A in Economics at the University of Cape Coast and a BFA in Theatre Arts/Music at the University of Ghana, Legon.

D-Black, who started his career in 2009 as an independent artist in the group D-Black & Kwaku T, released the album 'Target Practice' before going solo in 2010, subsequently releasing three albums, an EP, and a mixtape, and earning nominations and awards, including the 2011 BET Awards; he has also collaborated with various African acts from Nigeria, South Africa, Cameroon, Kenya, Tanzania, and his home country Ghana.
