The Treaty of Blois, signed on June 28, 1504, was an agreement that temporarily settled the Italian Wars between France and Spain. Cattolica, being strategically located on the Adriatic coast, had significance in the logistics and military strategies of the time. The Treaty of Blois was one of several diplomatic efforts to manage territorial claims and power balances in the region, although it did not permanently resolve the conflicts.

On September 12, 1835, Cattolica officially became recognized as a municipality in the Papal States. Prior to this official recognition, it had been a small maritime community with growing importance due to its location and burgeoning population. The establishment as a municipality marked a shift towards greater local governance and development, facilitating growth in commerce and infrastructure.

The Allies faced fierce resistance but eventually succeeded.

The Cattolica Aquarium was inaugurated on July 15, 1965, becoming an important attraction in the region. Known as the 'Acquario di Cattolica', it showcased a wide variety of marine life native to the Adriatic Sea, as well as exotic species. It served an educational purpose and boosted tourism, providing insights into marine biology and environmental conservation.

On June 10, 1970, Cattolica hosted its first international sailing regatta, placing it on the global sailing map. The Environmental Conservation Conference held on September 14, 1991, in Cattolica focused on Adriatic marine ecosystems. The launch of the Marina di Cattolica on April 19, 2002, marked a significant development in the town's tourism and recreational facilities. The new marina catered to leisure boating and yachting, providing state-of-the-art berths and services. It attracted visitors and yacht owners from around Europe, promoting nautical tourism and boosting the local economy.

Cattolica was awarded the Blue Flag on November 3, 2015, in recognition of the town’s high environmental and quality standards. The Blue Flag is a certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education that signals excellent water quality, safety, and environmental education. This recognition further promoted Cattolica as a premier beach destination committed to sustainable practices.
