Life and Career

At the age of six, Obour began playing a variety of drums, particularly the Atumpan, at the palace of the Juaso-Ashanti Akyem chief, which his father had previously presided over. Obour attended the Soul Clinic School in Accra, the State Experimental School in Kumasi, the Garison Junior Secondary School in Burma Camp, and the Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast.

Obour sought assistance from his London-based cousin J. Amano after completing secondary school, who put him in touch with his own Soul Records company. Later, he released Atentenben, which was nominated for three prizes at the Ghana Music prizes in 2002, including Video of the Year, for Soul Records. This song, along with others from the label, helped Soul Records win Record Label of the Year. In 2002, the same video took home the Best at Our Music Awards (OMA) honor.

Obour graduated from the University of Ghana, as well as the African Leadership Initiative of West Africa, the US International Visitor Leadership Programme, and the Aspen Global Leadership Network. President J. A. Kufuor awarded him the State Grand Medal Honor in 2008, making him the youngest recipient.

He is the founder and president of the Christiana Addo Memorial Foundation, which works to empower young people in Asante Akyem via education, sanitation, and personal cleanliness. On December 22, 2021, President Nana Akufo-Addo nominated him as the acting managing director of Ghana Post.
