Benjamin Kojo Afandoh

Born in Ajumako Asasan, Agya Ntow embarked on his acting journey in 1956 as a member of the Brigade Drama Group. It was during this time that he discovered his love for the stage and decided to pursue acting as a full-time career. Despite approaching the age of 70, Agya Ntow remains dedicated to his craft, emphasizing that his motivation stems from his genuine passion for acting rather than monetary gain.

Throughout his illustrious career, Agya Ntow has graced both the stage and the screen, leaving a lasting impression on audiences. One of his most cherished productions is the critically acclaimed "Sika Sunsum," in which he played a significant role. While he has appeared in numerous films, Agya Ntow believes "Sika Sunsum" stands out as his best work, resonating with audiences even today. Interestingly, it was through this production that he acquired the name Agya Ntow, which became synonymous with his character.

Agya Ntow's career includes collaborations with renowned theater groups such as Abibiman Concert Party, where he was a member and leader. He fondly reminisces about the days when the Abibiman Concert Party traveled across the country, performing plays to enthusiastic audiences. Later on, he joined Efirititi Concert Party, captivating concert party fans at the National Theatre alongside notable performers like Araba Stamp and Yaw Bortey (Apache).

Not only is Agya Ntow an exceptional actor, but he is also a talented playwright and composer. He reveals that he and his close friend and colleague, Yaw Bortey (Apache), compose the songs they perform in their productions. Agya Ntow takes pride in his melodious voice, which he often utilizes to enhance his performances. Despite primarily delivering his lines in Fanti, he embraces the challenge of translating scripts himself, infusing them with his own creative interpretations.

Agya Ntow has graced the Ghanaian film industry with his presence in numerous productions. Some notable films in which he has starred include "I Told You So," "Had I Known," "Heritage Africa," "Kae Dabi," "Kanana," and "Okukuseku," among others. His versatility as an actor shines through in these diverse roles, further solidifying his reputation as a seasoned performer.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Agya Ntow is a family man, married, and a father of seven children. He hails from Ajumako Asasan in the Central Region and enjoys football as a hobby. However, he admits that he can no longer play but still finds joy in watching the sport. Despite his fame, Agya Ntow faces challenges in dealing with overzealous fans, especially children who swarm him even when he is waiting in line for public transportation.

Agya Ntow is a strong advocate for better working conditions and fair remuneration for actors. He laments the inadequate compensation received from some producers, highlighting the need for financial support to enhance the film industry. Agya Ntow firmly believes that investing more in costumes and facilities would contribute to the growth and development of Ghanaian cinema.
