The Journey of a Hiplife Group from Ghana
Samuel Akman, born in Accra on May 3, 1984, to Mr. Andrews Akman and Mrs. Esther Agyekum, had a passion for music and rap from a young age. His performances at events like Fun World showcased his talent. Richard Danso, born on April 5, 1984, in Accra but with roots in Nkwatia, Kwahu, Eastern Region, was born to Mr. Stephen Danso and Mrs. Beatrice Sasu Danso. The two musicians, along with Felix Walker, came together to form Asaase Aban during their time as students at Apam Secondary School.
Asaase Aban's debut album, 'Adwoa Sokode,' released in 2003, catapulted the group to fame. With its impressive airplay and high sales, the album cemented their position in the Ghanaian music industry. Following their initial success, the group resurfaced in 2007 with 'Nana Yaa,' reinforcing their influence on the hiplife genre.
Asaase Aban established their own record label, Hot Boys Entertainment, to have more creative control over their music and to support emerging talent. Under this label, they released popular tracks such as 'Setey,' 'Ojulo,' 'Logoligi,' 'Seplepe,' and more, further solidifying their presence in the industry.
In October 2012, tragedy struck when Asaase Aban was involved in a severe car accident on the N1 Highway due to a careless hit-and-run driver. Their vehicle was badly damaged, and one member, Drasty, collapsed and had to be rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, the group survived the harrowing experience, thanks to the police's swift action in arresting the irresponsible driver.
Asaase Aban decided to take a hiatus from music to focus on personal matters. However, they made a triumphant return to the music scene later, inspired by their fans' unwavering support and encouragement from fellow musicians. Their comeback was marked by the release of the song 'Mejo (let's go)' accompanied by a captivating music video.
Over time, Asaase Aban underwent changes in its composition and music style. The group transitioned to a duo, with Samuel Akman and Richard Danso at the helm. Additionally, one member shifted from rapping to singing, adding a new dimension to their music.
