Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo is a Ghanaian politician currently representing the Wa Central constituency in the Upper West Region of Ghana as a Member of Parliament.
Born in the Wa district of Ghana's Upper West region on May 5, 1964, he finalized his education by obtaining a Middle School Leaving Certificate in 1976. Following this, he achieved O-level and A-level qualifications in 1983 and 1986, respectively. In 1994, he earned a Diploma in Economics and concurrently completed a Degree in Psychology. Continuing his academic pursuits, he secured a master's degree in International Affairs in 1998. His academic journey culminated with the attainment of a PhD in Development Policy from the African Studies department at the University of Ghana in 2013.
He secured a seat in the Parliament of Ghana in 2005 as a National Democratic Congress candidate following his victory in the December 2004 Ghanaian parliamentary election and still the current MP for the constituency.
He served as a consultant for the Institute of Policy Alternatives, held roles as the Deputy Coordinator of Finance and Director at the National Youth Council, and later assumed the position of Agricultural Ag. Regional Director within the same institution.
Pelpuo, previously a Minister of State at the office of the President, was appointed as the Minister for Youth and Sports by President John Atta Mills in September 2009, succeeding Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, who also served as the MP for Asawase and had resigned from the position.
