Waris, born in Tamale, Ghana, started his football career at the Ghanaian Right to Dream Academy at the age of twelve, then moved to England and joined Hartpury College while also featuring for the Nike Academy and Forest Green Rovers' reserves. He later signed with Swedish Allsvenskan club BK Häcken, where he achieved remarkable success, earning accolades, and drawing transfer speculation. He was subsequently transferred to Spartak Moscow and later had loan spells with Valenciennes and FC Porto before returning to France to play for Strasbourg and eventually signing with Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta in August 2022.
