Kwaku Agyemang Kwarteng is a Ghanaian civil engineer, economist, and politician, serving two terms as an MP for the Obuasi West constituency.
Kwaku Kwarteng was born in Ghana in 1969 and earned degrees in civil engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He also has a master's degree in economic policy management from the University of Ghana.
Kwaku Kwarteng worked in politics and held various roles, including being a spokesperson for the Government of Ghana on finance and later becoming a policy advisor for the New Patriotic Party.
He was elected in 2011 to represent the New Patriotic Party in the Obuasi West constituency. In the 2012 General elections, he won with 64.45% of the votes. In parliament, he served on the Communications and Poverty Reduction Strategy committees.
President Nana Akufo-Addo nominated Kwarteng and Charles Adu Boahen as deputy ministers of finance, working under Ken Ofori-Atta. Kwarteng was approved by the Appointments Committee of Parliament in March 2017 and stated during his vetting that there were outstanding arrears of 7 billion cedis owed to various institutions in the country.
Kwarteng is married and has three children. He embraces the Catholic faith.
